Introduction:
I read this book because I had to read this book for a school assignment. I had to go to the library and someone recommended this book and I knew the name from somewhere but I never read it before, so I took it because I was curious about the book.
About the book:
Billy Elliot is a boy, he has a dad and a brother, his mother died when he was younger. They didn’t have a lot of money at home. His dad and brother go on strike because the mines where they work are closing.
Billy dad thinks it is very important that a boy needs to learn how to fight, so Billy has to go to boxing lessons. In the same building as the boxing lessons is a ballet class, Billy likes ballet more than boxing, but his dad doesn’t allow that he is going to be a ballet boy. So Billy secretly goes to ballet classes.
His ballet teacher thinks he is very good in ballet and she suggests to go to a very good ballet school in London. But there is one problem; it costs a lot of money and Billy's dad doesn’t have that.
Do you want to know how it all turns out? Can Jackie ( father Billy) accept the fact that Billy likes to dance? Can Billy go to London? Then you have to read this book.
More about the characters:
Billy is a very nice kid, he knows what he wants and he goes for it, no matter what.
His father Jackie is a very stressed person, Billy has to do what he says. They don’t have a lot of money because the mother of Billy died, so the father of Billy has to work really hard to get money.
Billy’s brother Tony is not the same as Billy, he thinks ballet is stupid and for girls.
His friend Micheal has a crush on Billy. He really wants to help Billy so he can dance, he collected money for the dance academy.
Opinion:
I really like this book because Billy doesn’t give up, he wants something and he is working so hard for it.
What a good tip is if you want to read this book: read the chapters, because you see from whose perspective the book is written.
Why do you have to read this book?
